Volunteering with Promise
Promise of Education – Uganda truly values the effort, enthusiasm and knowledge these volunteers bring to the organisation without whom it could not operate.

Luyima Ponsiano
“I am Luyima Ponsiano, a Ugandan citizen by birth, and I am privileged to work with Promise of Education – Uganda as a regular volunteer, because I love to speak life to people. I hold a diploma in crop production and management. I have spent over 8 years in horticulture, majoring in leafy vegetables – nakati, red amaranthus, cabbages, tomatoes, cucumbers amongst others.
I became interested in working for Promise of Education – Uganda due to the fact that I wanted to share my skills, knowledge and understanding which I had attained in the marketing and production of horticulture crops with fellow farmers.
Many lives of small holder farmers have been transformed through compost and manure making, natural remedies for common ailments.
Through Promise of Education’s training of the natural remedies, I have learnt to overcome infections and some of the diseases that affect our bodies. I also learnt to cooperate with fellow volunteers. I envision myself working with Promise to change and impact lives of many Ugandans by being the candle that keeps on burning to enlighten their knowledge and understanding.
I believe that being a volunteer with Promise of Education – Uganda is of great worth and I recommend that at least every farmer would work with Promise to better families.“
Magwali James

“I, Magwali James, am a Ugandan citizen by birth, aged 56 years old and married with 7 children; 3 boys and 4 girls. I come from far in the East of Uganda (Mbale/Masaba Land), a place where Mt Elgon is found.
I am a retired grade 3 Primary School teacher, having taught for the last 30 years in the Education Service.
It was in 2019 when I had the first training with Promise of Education – Uganda. It was so marvellous that I also attended the second training. This organisation went a long way in giving me knowledge in farming and health issues.
Promise has made me knowledgeable especially in the field of natural remedies so much that I can make syrups from natural plants that can treat people with cough, malaria and others.
I am grateful for Promise; having made me one of the facilitators which has led to opportunites for me to meet people from different spheres of life with the aim of positively changing lives.
I pledge to continue working with Promise whenever and wherever I am called upon.
Long live Promise of Education Uganda!”
Kijambu John Baptist

Hello, I am John Baptist Kijambu, a Ugandan change maker who is honoured and committed to work as a part-time volunteer with Promise of Education – Uganda. After returning to Uganda in 2019, following completion of my master’s degree in biology education from Yogyakarta State University, Indonesia, I was not sure about where to start from. With such a great qualification, I began applying to become an assistant lecturer in one of the reputable universities in Uganda, but all was in vain. Confused and not sure what to do next, I was approached by Mr Vestar Makaka, asking me to become a volunteer with Promise of Education – Uganda. I warmly welcomed the opportunity driven by my motivation statement that ‘I am the positive change I want to see in this world’. Since my decision to serve as a volunteer, I am glad to have been part of the different projects of PoEU such as Inspire Project, which aims to equip and empower the young people with agricultural knowledge, skills and resources. Surely, I count my life lived because I volunteer with Promise of Education – Uganda.
