About

Promise of Education Uganda aims to provide quality schooling to the children of Gombe, Wakiso in Uganda. As a result of Covid-19 and the famine in the villages and suburbs of Kampala, Promise made the decision to extend their work to education of all ages through a mobile community project known as Inspire. You can read more about the project under the ‘Inspire‘ tab or click here.

Gombe is a village in the Wakiso district, approximately 23 kilometres (14 miles) north of Kampala, with a population of about 2500 (1500 of those being children and 80% primary school age).

Families here live in mud built brick houses with corrugated iron roofs with no running water or sanitation. Youth unemployment, crime, drug abuse, smoking, drinking and early pregnancies are a common part of everyday life.

Logo mapHow it began

It all began during my first visit to Uganda working the summer in a primary school in the city of Kampala. I felt a calling to set up a school here to teach the value of the land as farming is not valued as a profession in Uganda.

Visiting every year since, I have met people valuable to the enhancement of the project, but was unsure of the location.

At Easter, 2017 I had answered God’s call to return to Uganda with Bibles on a different mission. It was Easter Sunday that I felt God’s grace call me to build the school in the village of the church where I was stood. Happiness filled my heart as the way forward became clear.

That afternoon, the land was given for the purpose of building the school by a dear friend, Matovu Francis Byansi.

In September, the village suffered a severe storm and crops were destroyed and yields were low.

The charity and village wish to thank the community of Blackhorse Primary School for its contribution of £460 to buy beans and seeds for the families of Gombe.

In October 2017 the charity application was submitted to the Charity Commission and a response awaited.
